Parties
We have a Thanksgiving feast and a Christmas party. Everyone will be asked to send or help in some way with these parties. Also, we do have special “snack” times. These would be Valentine’s Day, Easter, and of course – birthdays!!
Show and Tell
Each student may bring one something to show and tell about on Fridays. Pets are welcome when we have advance notice! We will schedule them at 3:00 on Fridays.
Homework: Believing homework builds responsibility and reinforces the instruction given during the day, students will have homework.
Weekly:
Spelling words and Bible Verses: These will be written from memory on Fridays.
Discipline
Believing positive reinforcement is a motivator for appropriate behavior, we use a stick system. A child may earn sticks from a teacher. These sticks may be cashed in for tangibles on Fridays (not necessarily every Friday). A child may not lose a stick because of inappropriate behavior but may be denied sticks as a result of the behavior.
Earning sticks my be the result of:
On-task behavior, appropriate behavior in the halls, bathrooms, lunchroom, playground, assemblies
Examples of tangibles to be earned:
Pencils, pads, stickers, candy, gum, drink (Gatorade, lemonade, fruit drink) pizza, cake
If sticks are not motivating the student, other methods are used.
These may include:
Dropping points on point sheet
Staying in during recess
Eating lunch in the room with an adult
Writing home to a parent (student)
Office visit
Please be aware there are behaviors that could warrant an office visit immediately. They are:
Fighting
Stealing
Lying
Inappropriate language or gestures
Disrespect to an authority
We are grateful to have the privilege of teaching your child this year. We are looking forward to a great year! Let us know your questions, concerns and comments.
Point sheets
Point sheets are sent home nightly Monday-Thursday. Please sign these and feel free to communicate with us on these sheets. These sheets are a wonderful way to reinforce your child’s daily achievements.
